Hotel Description of the Radisson Hotel Pittsburgh Green Tree

General Observations

The Radisson Hotel Pittsburgh Green Tree consists of 3 towers of sleeping rooms built over a first floor where the lobby, restaurant and lounge, meeting rooms, ballrooms, and pool and fitness center are located.

Because the hotel is built into the side of a hill, the floor numbering of the sleeping towers is not consecutive. For instance, the floors in tower 1 in which our sleeping rooms will be reserved, are numbered floors 4 through 7. From floor 5 there is an exit directly outdoors, so dog guide users should request a sleeping room on the 5th floor. A dog relief area is located across a parking area outside the 5th floor exit. See a description of the dog relief areas below.

Other than the Thursday evening PCB Board meeting and the Saturday lunch, all convention activities and facilities are located along or in the hotel lobby, tower 1 and tower 1 hall, the ballroom hall, ballroom foyer and the ballrooms. Once familiar with the layout of the lobby and two main halls, tower 1 hall and the ballroom hall, independent travel to convention functions should not prove difficult. The only activities not in the listed areas are the Thursday evening PCB Board meeting scheduled for the PPG room and the Saturday Lunch scheduled in the Duquesne room. Both rooms are located in the small meeting room hall.

Brief Description of Hotel lobby Layout

The lobby is a square room with a good deal of furniture in the center of the room. Facing the room from just inside the entrance, hallways lead off from the front left, rear left, and rear right corners. Facing forward from the lobby entrance, the registration desk is in the right wall of the lobby. At the rear corner of the right wall, a hall opens off to the right, the small meeting room hall where elevators to towers 2 and 3 are located. Directly across the lobby is the rear wall of the lobby and in the rear wall in the left corner, a hallway opens and proceeds back, the tower 1 hall, where, at its end, the elevator bank for tower 1 is located. The door to the hotel lounge is located in the left wall of the lobby. In the left wall at the front of the lobby is a long hall which proceeds off to the left, the ballroom hall.

Locating the Registration Desk From the Front Entrance

Upon entering the hotel lobby door, walk 3 feet forward and turn to the right. Walk forward about 20 feet to the bell stand, a high counter. Turn to the left and walk forward several steps past the bell stand. Turn to the right and walk forward about 4 feet to the registration desk. The front edge of the registration desk will be positioned in front of you and off to the left for about 20 feet.

Locating Tower 1 From the Registration Desk

While facing the registration desk, turn to the left and follow the registration desk to its end and continue forward another 6 feet until reaching the rear wall of the lobby. Turn left following the rear wall and walk forward about 40 feet to reach a corridor opening to the right, the tower 1 hall. Turning into tower 1 hall, the tile floor continues for about 10 feet then switches to carpeting the remainder of the length of the hall, roughly 100 feet. Just short of the end of the hall, on the right, is a bank of 2 elevators which provide access to the sleeping rooms of tower 1.

Facilities Located Along Tower 1 Hall

From the lobby end of the hall moving towards the bank of elevators at the hall's other end, beginning at the carpet's edge, a Mini Bank 2100 ATM is located on the left at a distance of 15 feet. Continuing along the hall another 10 feet on the left are the doors of a snack bar. Moving forward another 10 feet, 35 feet from the carpet's edge, on the right side of the hall is the door into the pool and fitness room area. Also on the right, 2 feet beyond the pool and fitness area door is the entrance to a small but accessible women's rest room. A men's rest room entrance is located 10 feet beyond the women's rest room, also on the right side of the hall. Approximately 50 feet beyond the men's room entrance on the right is the bank of elevators for tower 1. At the very end of the hall is a door to the fire tower stairway for tower 1. Please note that several feet beyond the men's room entrance, the hall is narrowed by a set of fire doors.

Locating the Restaurant and Ballroom Foyer From Tower 1

Exiting the elevator into the tower 1 hall, turn to the left and walk the length of the hall. When reaching the end of the carpeting which gives way to a tiled surface, continue walking forward. After the first 10 feet, the lobby opens off to the left. Continuing to walk forward, within about another 20 feet a wide door way to the lounge area opens off to the right. Passing by the lounge doorway continue forward as a wall on the right resumes. At the end of the wall on the right, turn right into a very long corridor, the ballroom hall. Turning right into the hall, the floor surface changes from tile to carpeting. 30 feet from the carpet edge, the hotel restaurant opens off to the right. Though there is an alternative entrance to the restaurant from the lounge, this door to the restaurant is far more accessible with a hostess stand just inside the door. Continuing past the restaurant opening, the wall on the right resumes for another 12 feet, at which point the carpeting changes back to tile, and the hall opens into a small oddly shaped foyer. To traverse the foyer, angle slightly to the right, about 20 degrees, and walk forward 30 feet. The tile surface changes back to carpeting as the ballroom hall continues. Walking forward, 36 feet from the resumption of the carpeting, the hall turns to the right for a distance of 8 feet, then turns back to the left and continues. 5 feet past the turn to the left, a 12 foot long hallway opens from the ballroom hall off to the right. Located in this short hall are large accessible rest rooms. The women's rest room door is located in the right wall and the men's rest room is located at the end of the rest room hall. Continuing along the ballroom hall, 55 feet from the last left turn, the ballroom foyer opens to the right. Turning right in to the 12 foot wide foyer, along the right wall are doorways to the ballrooms where the vendors' hall and convention hall will be located. The first door on the right, 10 feet from the turn into the foyer is the Birch ballroom, followed shortly by the door to the Poplar Ballroom, the combined rooms serving as the vendors' hall. 10 feet beyond is the door to the Oak Ballroom, followed within several feet by the door to the Maple Ballroom. Oak and Maple will serve as our convention hall. Note that the walls between Birch, Poplar, Oak, and Maple are folding walls and will be open or closed according to the use of the rooms.

Directions to Dog Relief Areas

There are two dog relief areas. One is accessed from the ballroom foyer, the other from the 5th floor of tower 1. From the ballroom foyer, when exiting either the vendors' hall or convention hall, turn to the left and walk forward to the front wall of the ballroom foyer. Reaching the wall, to the left extends the beginning of the ballroom hall, to the right a ramp proceeds upward for 30 feet. Turn to the right and walk up the ramp. At the top landing of the ramp you will be facing a wall which extends 6 feet from the left wall. Side step to the right beyond the end of the wall and walk forward. Just beyond the end of the wall, turn to the left to face a set of inner and outer double doors leading outside. Exit the doors and walk 6 feet then turn to the right and walk along a sidewalk for 20 feet. From that point, extending to the end of the sidewalk along the right edge is a grassy strip where dogs can be relieved. A trash receptacle will be placed just off the sidewalk to mark the beginning of the dog relief area.

To locate the 5th floor dog relief area, exit the elevator on the 5th floor and turn to the right. Within 10 feet the elevator hall is intersected by the sleeping rooms hall. Continue following the elevator hall forward past the sleeping rooms hall to a set of doors which exit outdoors. Exiting through the doors walk forward 30 feet to the edge of the side walk to the beginning of a parking lot. Note that the change from sidewalk to the macadamed parking area may be difficult to discern. There is not a step down. From this point walk 60 feet across the parking lot to an up curb. Beyond the curb is an upward sloping grassy area where dogs can be relieved. A trash receptacle will be placed on the surface of the parking lot against the up curb and will be directly in line with the hotel exit. Facing the trash receptacle with your back to the hotel exit, the grassy area to the left of the receptacle inclines less severely and will serve better as a relief area.
