Guide Dog Etiquette While Attending Convention
The PCB Convention Planning Committee welcomes all
guide dog users and their dog guides to PCB state conventions and
conferences. Because we care about the comfort and welfare of you, your
guide dog, and all attendees, we offer the following list of do's and
don'ts for your consideration.
- DO take your dog out regularly and often. This will
help prevent indoor accidents.
- DO absolutely pick up after your dog. Trash receptacles are
located near each relief area.
- Do not ask hotel staff to take your dog out to be relieved.
- DO take your dog with you when you go to meetings, events,
or just out to visit with friends. If you must leave your dog in your
room, be sure to put your dog on leash. Remember that housekeeping is not
required to clean rooms with unaccompanied dogs, and that dogs left alone
sometimes engage in excessive barking.
- DO notify the hotel guest services immediately by dialing 0
from any house phone if your dog has an indoor accident, or if you become
aware of an accident.
- DON'T allow your dog to drink from the ice bucket or get on
the bed in your room.
- Do tuck your guide dog under your seat or table during
meetings and meal times or in an area where it can't be tripped over or
stepped on.
- Do not allow your dog to wander out of your hotel room when
out of harness and off leash.
- Do not allow your guide dog to bark or growl at other dogs
or individuals.
Above all, every dog guide user is responsible
for the care, safety, and behavior of their guide dog.
